DIY: indian headdress for AFF

Check out the original post here.

Tools of the trade:
1. Feathers - Get different colours of loose single feathers of different sizes. And! a half a metre of ‘feathery ribbon’
2. Sharp scissors
3. Foam backing
4. Glue gun (this is a worthwhile investment for any crafter and is surprisingly inexpensive)
5. Decorative rope
6. Gems - If you decide you want extra bling
7. Cotton thread and a needle
8. Extra decorative chain
9. Decorative ribbon
10. Elastic - Make sure your elastic is the same or very close to the width of your ribbon
Step One:
Use your decorative ribbon to mark out and cut the width of your foam backing. Do this along the longer side of your A4 foam. Then make sure to cut your piece of decorative ribbon 1cm longer than your foam backing. A good way to measure... when held up against your forehead it should run from temple to temple.
Step Two:
To keep the edges of the decorative ribbon from fraying, hem the edges with your glue gun.
Step Three:
Now you can lay down your first layer of feathers onto the foam backing. Use the longer ones as this will be the back layer. Using your glue gun to glue down this first layer. Do the same with a second layer of feathers. Then  take your 'feathery ribbon' and glue down as the third layer. Finally take your decorative ribbon, cover its edges in glue and stick it on top of all 3 layers.
Step Four:
Cut your elastic 6cm longer than the foam backing. With your glue gun outline the backing with glue, then stick the elastic down firmly on top. Don't be shy with the glue gun at this point.
Step Five:
We are now going to neaten our head band up. Cut the 'feathery ribbon' down making sure to leave roughly 6 cm on either side. Fold it nicely and glue it down to hide the join of your decorative ribbon.
Step Six:
Take your left over 'feathery ribbon' and place glue alone the bottom edge. Roll it around the end of the rope so that you have feather tassels dangling on either end. Then put a thin glue line on the bottom edge of your decorative ribbon and run the rope along it, holding it down while it sets. But! make sure to leave an equal amount of rope to hang down on either side.
Step Seven:
Finally secure any pieces you feel need a little extra glue down and we’re done. Yay!
